Fabric Friday: the last gift
I have written a few times about my maternal grandmother and her love of fabric and her sewing prowess. Such a big part of my memory of nana is that she loved sewing and she was excellent at it. Moreover, she loved fabric and she collected it, stashed it and enjoyed it (I like to […]
Fabric Friday: umbrellas and rainbows
Last week I shared about that beautiful vintage linen tea towel that was my Nana’s. Today I am sharing more of her beautiful fabric. This is a heavy weight cotton fabric that would be great for making cushions and bags and hats. Nana bought this fabric and used the motifs to appliqué on children’s items […]
Fabric Friday: Christmas!
I have made some Santa sacks for Monte and me. I’m pretty sure that Monte has been a good boy and that Santa will be coming to him this year. I am *hopeful* that he will be coming to me too. I made some sacks with some red, weird elasticky fabric and trimmed them with […]
Fabric Friday: repurposing
I received a large bag of little girls’ clothes last weekend. I rummaged through, taking a few items that I thought would be suitable for Elora. One item was a little sundress. It was sewn out of very pretty fabric, in a pillow case dress style, but the straps and binding were so frayed that […]
Fabric Friday: Kokka
This lovely fabric is a Japanese fabric called ‘Trefle’ by Kokka. It is a thick and close woven fabric that would be great for furnishings and accessories. I bought this fabric because in one my my appliqué phases I thought it would be lovely for appliqués, but now I think I would like to make […]
Fabric Friday: Holly Hobby
I have had this unfinished Holly Hobby dress in my possession since Georgia was little. My grandmother gave it to me – I can’t even remember the full story of this piece. Anyway, I was cleaning up Elora’s wardrobe because she is well and truly in size 2 clothes now – clothes need to be […]
Fabric Friday: Tania’s choice
My lovely friend Tania scored this beautiful vintage sheet. Isn’t it pretty! I’m quite envious. She’s going to use it to make pajama pants for herself and here daughters. I love the idea of having matching jarmies pants! There are lots of tutorials on the Internet for making simple pants, using your existing pants to […]
Fabric Friday: Urban Zoology – owls in pink
More on the bird theme. The owls are cute and I like the bright colours. Scraps leftover from making a little dress for Elora could be used for appliqué and buttons for accessories. I also think this would make such a cute sunhat.
