Spring is just so magical isn’t it. I’ve been enjoying wandering around our garden so much. I’m learning about our plants’ life cycles and what plants grow well here as well as learning things like what the chickens prefer to eat (daikon leaves) and what they leave alone (silverbeet, rhubarb).
It’s no secret. I love my chooks. We have 7 hens, a rooster called Rocco and 8 Spring chicks.

Just a brief sojourn into the garden is very uplifting, especially when you feel rather housebound with babies and housework. Sarah loves a little wander into the garden too. It’s a great way to distract her from a tantrum! And it always helps to kick put the children outside for some fresh air and a play.
What you find on a garden wander: beans, daikon, broccoli gone to seed, garlic, weeds… Cows…
I keep talking about it, but a few months ago I planted 760 bulbs. Everything is growing, except for the 150 odd freesias I planted. I’ve tried planting them before; they mustn’t like our soil at all. Probably my most favourite success with my bulbs is the tulips. They are remarkable. I’m so glad I planted them and I’ll be planting more next year for sure. I think I might have planted them too close together, so when if I dig them up I will separate them, or I might just dig up every 2nd one so they have room to multiply.
So, this weekend we are putting the cows in the back yard to mow down the grass, and I might do some weeding or potting or planting, of I might just look at the garden and sip tea with my bestie, Amanda, who is staying for the week. Yay!
Happy weekend x
