I’m joining in with onecraftymumma’s ripple-along. It is just the motivation I need to get a much-planned-for crochet blanket done.
I’m using the pattern at Attic 24 to make my blanket. I have eight balls of yarn (800g) and it’s going to be 145cm by about 1m, although I crochet loosely so it might end up being a different size – we’ll see.
My aim is to crochet one band (two rows) every day. Any extra crocheting just means I can have this completed earlier. So far I have crocheted 8 bands in 7 days. Well on schedule!
The blanket isn’t for anybody specific – yet (things could change as I see the blanket grow). I imagine it thrown onto the couch so the children can cuddle up under it, or drape it across chairs to make a ‘cubby house’ with it. It might be used for picnics, or taking to the park, or it might even just be kept in the car for times when the kids just need some extra warmth. I don’t mind what it is used for, I just want to see it used.
Since starting the ripple blanket last weekend I have been feeling happy. I have wanted to crochet a blanket for ages. One of the reasons why I had not yet started was because I thought I needed to buy a whole new stack of yarn for the job, but for this blanket I am using yarn from my stash. It’s a bunch of acrylic yarn, which will wear well with the children’s use of it. I am so excited about breaking into my yarn stash. I set a goal for myself not to buy anymore yarn (or fabric) this year, until I have used what I already have. It can be tough to stick to this goal, especially when faced with yarns and fabrics on sale, and I am a huge Etsy fan (I love window shopping on Etsy!).
See? I have the motivating factor of being able to go shopping when I have completed some more crafty projects! Yay!
There is something very therapeutic about crocheting. I’m sleeping better and feeling better because I am relaxed and happy, having something to create that also helps me think clearly. It’s definitely good for me to make stuff. Having my ‘me time’ keeps me sane. I think everybody needs their ‘me time’ thing.
What is your ‘me time’ thing?
Thank you for coming over to my blog, Cindy! I am enjoying the ripplealong so much, watching everybody’s ripples growing. It makes me feel part of a little community, which is nice for somebody like me who lives somewhere fairly rural! Enjoy using your stash of yarn :) x
Thank you for coming over to my blog, Sara. I know what you mean about lots of ideas but not enough time! I think it’s perfectly healthy to collect stuff, like yarn! It is good for the soul! X
Thank you Kari! It is hard to not buy new yarn isn’t it. Sorry to hear about your grandmother passing away. What a treasure you have of hers though! My nanna died last year. I have a lot of her fabric (I write about it often on this blog). It still smells like her house!
Happy rippling x
Thank you Kate! It is soft and cuddly but it has been so warm here it’s almost too hot to be crocheting a blanket! I am enjoying the process so much though! Thank you for stopping by x
I love the colours that you are using, it already looks so soft and cuddly.
Love your blanket and that’s it’s making you feel happy to create it! I too have put myself on a ‘no new yarn’ ban as I was gifted my nanna’s stash when she passed away last year and my own stash was already too large!
Happy rippling!
Love the idea of using up yarn stash – but I love collecting it all, I don’t think my collection will ever get used up! Whoops – I always seem to have more ideas than time.
Hi Rebecca,
I love that you are using yarn from your stash for your ripple blanket. I have a huge stash that I’ve vowed to use up too, but I’ve been using it on smaller projects here and there. Keep up the good work. It’ll be fun watching everyone’s progress. (I should mention I saw your blog on Melissa’s blog for the ripple-a-long)
