Fabric Friday: pillow cases!

I bought a pair of large pillow cases from the op shop. I really like the colors – great for spring, and quite feminine. These will make two pairs of pants for Ella. She is quite adamant these days about wearing pink pants. I was not prepared for my little baby to become so fashion conscious. She obviously expresses a desire to wear pink and ‘pink’ was the first colour she could identify.

When I prepare the fabric for sewing I will cut along the inner seam of these pillow cases because they have tailored edges. It means I will be left with long strips that could be wasted fabric, but I could make covered buttons, headbands or bag or dress straps with those.

The fabric from these pillow cases is quite worn, so it is soft – perfect for pajama pants. They are Target pillow cases and the care instructions label is very worn. I think these must be quite old, going by the style of the Target label. I could call these pillow cases ‘vintage,’ which makes wearing pants made from pillow cases so much trendier! Not that little Ella would know the difference!
