We were proud of our Monte when he ran in the Winter Challenge not long ago. It was a lovely day in Franklin. Lots of athletes were busy preparing for the event. There was a lovely atmosphere, with poeple chatting and watching the runners/cyclists/kayakers participating in their events.
The Winter Challenge is a multi-sport challenge, with running, mountain bike, road bike and kayak being the four ‘legs.’ Some athletes completed the whole thing individually, whilst others were in pairs of groups. Monte ran the running leg of the event, which was over 11 km. He ran the whole way, fell over twice, and found it fun, albeit hard work.
Being part of a relatively small community, seeing lots of people we know participating in the challenge was really interesting. It was one of those gorgeous Tasmanian winter days, when people were gathered by the water, brought together by tradition, in the name of sport.
Yes, we were reminded of the old days, when we would spend days by the water for rowing regattas. How exciting it was, to be part of something like that again!
