10 days to go

Ahhhh… the final days of this pregnancy are here. And I will admit that I am counting down, now that we have a date. The induction date is booked for 37+ weeks. I am being induced because of my antibodies; once the baby is mature it can be delivered and thus avoid potential problems due to the antibodies in my blood trying to destroy our baby’s red blood cells (hence making the baby anaemic, which can lead to all sorts of problems). My previous induced birthing experiences were very positive so I am not worried about the induction process.

This family is waiting patiently – some more patiently than others. Georgia is very excited about the baby. She has a plan that she will happily sit and hold the baby for “the whole day!” Matthew comes over to me for a hug. I stretch my arms wide to cuddle him and he says: “No mummy, I want to cuddle the baby.” Then he puts his arms around my belly, rests his head on my belly and talks or sings to the baby… it is very adorable!

I am mostly well, despite feeling nauseous most of the time (still). My blood pressure has been quite stable but it is creeping up a bit. I have the normal discomforts of pregnancy, like a sore back and now my feet hurt if I am standing/walking too much. I get lots of Braxton Hicks (practice contractions) which can be painful. I’m tired. I’ve gained half as much weight this pregnancy as my other pregnancies. I am happy and relaxed and I am enjoying my time off work before the baby is born because I can get plenty of rest.

I have great friends. My friend Philz gave me a wonderful foot massage today and my feet feel amazing. Thank you, Philz! xox

Baby is in a good position for birth, with its head down low and the spine lying along the front of my belly. Last week baby was estimated to weigh 2.7kg. That’s 6lbs 0oz (why we continue to discuss babies’ weights in pounds amazes me). The fortnightly measurements all point to ‘average,’ except ultrasound is not that accurate at estimating size. I have actually read that a mother’s guess is almost as accurate. Monte and I have a fake bet happening re baby weight and the prize is supposedly an iPhone. I suggested that the prize be the baby – that way we are both winners! I won’t publish our guesses for the same reason I don’t tell people what sex we think the baby is. I would hate to be wrong in public!!
