Fabric Friday. Vintage tablecloth

A few weeks ago I received a big parcel from my cousin. It was filled with haberdashery and other items that were nana’s. It was very exciting opening up the parcel and rummaging through the ribbons, lace, elastic, fabric and other items.

One of my favourite things in the parcel is this lovely tablecloth. It is made of a beautiful sheen cotton and has a tight weave. You just don’t find that kind of quality very often these days, unless you pay a mint for it.

There is a small part of me that wants to turn this fabric into a skirt. I think it would be so pretty as a skirt! However, keeping it as a tablecloth means that I can enjoy this pretty piece more often, because I wouldn’t wear the skirt every day, although I do like to keep this tablecloth on my dining table under a vase of flowers, or folded up neatly on top of our sideboard.

When I was younger I was not much into florals. Now that I am get more grown up I am liking florals more and more – or at least I am brave enough to admit that I am floral mad. I don’t wear the same amount of floral dresses and skirts that I wore in my late teens (with Doc Marten boots, I might add! Loved the 90s) but I love florals in home decor – I just love flowers in general. Who doesn’t? Flowers make us feel happy and calm, don’t they!
