We’ve reached the 21-week mark. This pregnancy is going so fast it’s almost scary. For me, this is probably a fair way over halfway (my other babies were born 3 and 2 weeks early).
We had our anomaly scan yesterday. We chuckled afterwards that we weren’t in great awe after this scan because we’ve already had two babies and, yep, this one looks exactly the same… Still, it was exciting to see bump moving around and it was funny seeing the sonographer’s magic wand bouncing around when the baby kicked. She called it a ‘little wriggler!’ Monte and the kids can easily feel baby’s kicks when they put their hands on my belly. It’s nice sharing that with the family and makes it more real for Georgie and Matthew.

Baby’s feet. How cute!
We are thrilled that the baby is growing really well. The sonographer said the baby’s growth is beautiful, and all the measurements are perfect, although I did panic when the sonographer asked me if my other babies had been small! Then she told me the measurements were fine. Eek! The baby’s estimated weight is somewhere around 400g. How tiny! Georgia measured 4 days bigger than her dates. Matthew measured a week bigger than his dates. This bump measures 2 days bigger than its dates. This may not sound significant, but when you’ve given birth to two big babies (3.7kg and 4kg, and you’re about to do it again, you *do* think about size! Still, I managed to deliver Georgia and Matthew in a short time with no drugs or other interventions (apart from having my waters broken!) and I reckon I can do it again… as I keep telling myself.
People are going to ask me if we found out the sex. No, we didn’t. I was adamant that I wanted a surprise this time. I know the pain I am going to have to go through to get this baby and finding out the sex when it’s born will be something new for me. That’s not to say that I wasn’t *really* tempted to find out.
The baby has a room. It is filled with boxes of my work stuff and boxes of books and boxes of kids’ clothes ranging from size 0000 to size 6. There’s not a lot of space to walk around in there and sometime between now and October we need to do lots of sorting so we can set up baby’s room. I’ve bought nothing for the baby, apart from something for the cot. We went to Ikea in Adelaide and I just had to buy something.
As for baby names, they are picked and ready to go. We didn’t even have to discuss it much. We just mentioned names we like (about 3 girls’ and 3 boys names’) and agreed on the boy and girl name. Easy. Despite not knowing the sex of the baby, we can still refer to him/her with the names we’ve chosen.
I’ve got rare antibodies and during pregnancy they can be a problem (hence the reason I’ve been induced previously). The levels have risen 2 jumps, which is significant, and now they are at a fairly high level. They did a scan for anemia yesterday and so far the baby looks fine. I try not to worry about the antibodies. Georgia and Matthew ended up being born very healthy. If I think about holding my new baby in my arms, my heart races and I smile. I think it will be wonderful, but I am in no hurry.
